Best Seats For a Concert at PPG Paints Arena
The most common seating layout at PPG Paints Arena for concerts is an end-stage setup with the stage located near sections Club Loge 1, Club Loge 23 and Section 115. For many concerts there are also slight variations to the layout, which may include General Admission seats, fan pits and B-stages.
On the Floor: Sections Floor 1, Floor 2, Floor 3 and Floor 4 are Floor Seats, which offer some of the closest views of the performers. For many concerts, floor sections are added or removed. These performer-specific adjustments may alter the floor layout and the views from each floor section.
To the Side of the Stage: For close views of the stage with a little bit of elevation, consider seats to the side of the stage in Section 101, Section 113 and Section 114. The view is not head-on like on the floor, but many of the seats are closer to the stage, provide better elevation and are actual stadium seats.
Head-on to the Stage: Seats directly across from the stage, like those in Loge Box 11, Loge Box 12, Loge Box 13 and Section 106 provide the most comfortable looks of the performance.
Even upper level sections offer unobstructed sitelines. Just keep in mind that you won't be able to see as much detail from these seats as you would if you sat closer to the stage.
Consider the Following When Buying Concert Tickets
Seats behind the stage are occassionally sold: Unless your main objective is to just get in the building, you'll want to completely avoid anything behind the stage - like those in/near or above sections Club Loge 1, Club Loge 23, Section 115 and Section 116. It's unlikely the performer will turn around to salute you - and you're more likely to be completely blocked out from seeing the show.
If you're on the shorter side (or bringing kids), consider floor seats only in the first few rows: The most common complaint amongst floor ticketholders is that they can't see the stage because of taller people in front of them. As an alternative, consider side sections near the stage that will still have you close and high enough to see.
Lower level side sections are not created equal: While the side sections closest to the stage are top-notch, side sections farther from the stage may leave you with a cramp in your neck. Sections Club Loge 7 and Club Loge 17 are not well-angled towards the stage - leaving you to turn your head for an ideal view. Instead, consider head-on sections in the lower level or even close side seats in the upper level like 201 and 221.

Corner sections typically provide a cheaper alternative to side sections with a better angle towards the stage. Unfortunately, the corner sections at the Consol Energy Center weren't built this way. The seats in Sections 104-105 and 109-110 have very poor angles towards an end-stage, leading to uncomfortable views from far away. If you're set on buying cheap lower level tickets, Sections 106-108 are the way to go.
Lower Level End (Concert) Seating
Sections 106-108 offer comfortable head-on views for an end-stage setup. Unlike the adjacent corner sections, these lower level seats won't leave you with a crick in your neck at the end of the night - and they can still be purchased affordably. Sections begin with the letter A and ascend up from the floor to Z.
Lower Level Side (Concert) Seating
Side sections on the lower level are among the most desirable non-floor sections. The first row in each section is labeled A, and the rows ascend up from the floor to Row Z. Sections 114 and 122 provide up-close side views of the stage and typically demand high dollar. The adjacent Sections 101-102, 111-113 and 122 are considered club seats. As you get farther away from the stage (e.g.:103, 111), the angle towards the stage starts to create some uncomfortable views. For fans considering those sections, 106-108 provide a cheaper alternative with more comfortable views.
Upper Level Corner (Concert) Seating
Corner sections in the upper level are often-times the cheapest concert tickets at Consol Energy Center. Among these corner sections, 208, 209, 213 and 214 will provide the best views even though they are farther from the stage than adjacent corner sections.
Upper Level End (Concert) Seating
The farthest seats from an end-stage setup are the 200 level seats head-on to the stage. Despite the distance, the front rows of these sections offer a surprisingly good view of the stage. In fact, the views are very similar to the lower level seats just below, but at a fraction of the cost. Fans looking for the best value would be wise to begin their search in the lower rows of Sections 210-212.
Upper Level Side (Concert) Seating
With just two small tiers of seating between the upper and lower levels, upper level concert seats at Consol Energy Center are much better than at most hockey venues. The front row seats have a very similar view to the back rows in the 100 level. In the side sections, 201 and 221 provide fabulous views of the stage. Rows run A-Q in these sections. While Row A will give you the best view, Row Q will have you closer to concessions and restrooms since the concourse tunnel is at the top.
Floor Baseline (Basketball) Seating
Located directly behind the baskets on each side of the arena are Floor Baseline seats. Each of these sections has 10 rows of seating with Row A closest to the court. The front rows of these sections provide exponentially better views of the action than the higher rows because the basket is less of a distraction. In addition, the higher rows are not elevated above the lower rows, making it difficult to see. Either way, these Floor seats are meant to impress ticketholders and their guests with up-close views of the action.
Floor Sideline (Basketball) Seating
For basketball games at Consol Energy Center, two rows of floor seating are added on each sideline. The rows in each section are labeled A and B, and are among the best basketball seats in the arena. Fans seated in Floor 1-5 will be seated directly behind the players and scorer's table, while fans in 8-12 will be seated right up against the court.
Lower Level Baseline (Basketball) Seating
Baseline seating on the lower level provides a cheaper alternative to the Floor Baseline seating located directly in front of these sections. Unlike the floor seats, these seats have elevation - making it easier to see over fans in front of you. The biggest complaint among fans in these sections is having the basket obstruct your view. That's why these are typically the cheapest tickets on the lower level.
Lower Level Corner (Basketball) Seating
While corner seats are an inexpensive way to sit on the lower level, these seats have some serious flaws for basketball games. In particular, the angle towards the court in Sections 104, 110, 115 and 121 is terrible. These seats are setup for hockey where the important action extends down into these corners. But for basketball, you want to be angled more towards center court. When seated in the lower rows of the afore-mentioned sections, you'll have to turn your head to see the action.
Lower Level Sideline (Basketball) Seating
After floor seats, the most sought-after basketball tickets at PPG Paints Arena are those located along the sidelines in Sections 101-103 and 111-113. These seats offer some of the best unobstructed views of the entire court and won't have you craning your neck - like the adjacent corner sections. Row A is the first row behind floor seating in each of these sections.
Upper Level Baseline (Basketball) Seating
Baseline seating in the upper level is ideal for the budget-concious fan who doesn't mind the basket distracting their view of the court. The upper rows in these sections are about as far as you can get from the court, but they provide quick access to restrooms and concessions. Closer views can obviously be found in the lower rows, but you'll need to traverse a flight of stairs each time you head to the concourse.
Upper Level Corner (Basketball) Seating
Like most upper level sections, the corner seats have 15 rows of lettered seating. These seats offer far-away views of the court that generally match their price-tag. The best views will come from Sections 206, 216, 223 and 233 where the basket is least obstructive and the angle to center court is best. The entrance to each section located at the top, so fans who have trouble with stairs will want to avoid lower rows.
Upper Level Sideline (Basketball) Seating
The lower rows of the upper level seats are center court are among the best values at Consol Energy Center for basketball games. Typically, these seats are priced similarly to lower level corner seats which have a much worse view. If you're more interested in following the action on the court, and don't care so much about being close to the action, these seats are an ideal fit. Each section has 15 rows of lettered seating, with Row A being the front row and the last row being closest to the concourse.
100 Level Attack Corners (Hockey) Seating
Corner seating on the lower level offers great views for the experienced hockey fan, as it combines both the goal to goal action with the cross ice movement and passing. The views are much less traditional than what you typically see in a TV broadcast, but allow you to really appreciate the speed and complexity of the game.
Pens fans will want to find themselves in either Sections 104-105 or 109-110 where you'll be closest to the net where the Penguins attack during both the 1st and 3rd periods. Sections have up to 24 lettered rows of seating, with Row A being closest to the glass. For the shortest walks to and from the seats and best seating height for following the action, we recommend opting for seats near the top of the sections.
100 Level Attack End-Zones (Hockey) Seating
Sitting behind the nets on the lower tier gives you a true appreciation for all the unique cross ice passing plays, and lets you experience the game from a similar perspective as the goalies. Sections 106-108 are great options for Penguins fans as you'll be close to the net where the home team attacks twice, and will also be one of the first to celebrate when one of the Pens lights the lamp nearby.
Sections here have up to 24 lettered rows of seating, with Row A being right up against the glass where you can find a one of a kind experience at an NHL game.
200 Level Attack Corners and Endzone (Hockey) Seating
Corner seating on the Upper Level gives hockey fans good value for the money thanks to elevated views and unique perspective that allows you to follow all facets of the game. Novice fans may struggle with the non-traditional views, and the far goal may be too difficult to see at times.
Penguins fans will want to stick near the net where the Pens attack twice (Sections 205-209 and 213-217), with the best options being found in Sections 216-217 thanks to the head on views of the players and coaches on the bench.
200 Level Attack Endzones (Hockey) Seating
If you're looking for a cheap ticket for a Penguins hockey game, you've come to the right place. Upper Level Seating behind the nets is often considered to be some of the more challenging views, helping to keep prices in the lower range.
The Penguins attack twice at the net near Sections 210-212, making seats here some of the best value finds for die hard Pens fans. Sections in this areas have up to 15 lettered rows of seating, with entry tunnels located at the very top of the sections.
Upper Level Center (Hockey) Seating
If you're looking for a traditional center ice view, but are working with a budget when searching for tickets, the Upper Level Center where you'll want to be. While further from the ice on the upper seating tier, fans have clear unobstructed views to both nets, allowing you to following the action no matter what.
If you have the option, we recommend going with Sections 218-221 as these seats will have a head on view of the players and coaches on the team benches. Sections here have up to 15 lettered rows of seating, with entry tunnels located at the very top (leaving the longest walks for fans closest to the front near Row A).
