You can't get any better than home plate in the shade...unless you want to catch fly balls. Great seats for baseball!

Before going to my first Cubs game, (vs. Los Angeles Dodgers) I kept going back and forth on where we should sit. At first, I really wanted to sit in the 200 Reserved sections because it is in the lower level and it has cheap prices. But after I found out about the potential risk of the poles blocking the entire game, we decided to play it safe and sit in the unobstructed 400 level. As soon as we found our seats, I knew we made a good decision. Section 419 was right behind home plate and despite it being a cloudy, gloomy day, it offered a fantastic view of Wrigley Field. Also, despite being in the upper deck you could still see the players very clearly and you truly felt as if you were a fan of the game, and not just someone who is trying squint and look in. Another really cool thing is that you were right below all the commentators calling the game as well as the 7th inning stretch. At one point, Bob Brenly (cubs TV commentator) waved to me! One of the very few negatives that I can think of is that we had to travel a decent distance to get to the bathroom as well as the concession stands. Also, I didn't see very many people coming around with concessions into our sections but that might've been just me not seeing it. Even though the Cubs did not have a very productive day, the crowd atmosphere was still very good and their were no obnoxious or rude people. Just fans who truly wanted to see the game. The seats were relatively comfortable, however, I wish there was slightly more leg room so I didn't have to scoot in against my seat every time somebody wanted to pass by. Finally, the real only way you don't want to sit in this section is if you are trying to catch a foul ball. Since we were right behind home plate, the screen protecting the fans blocked every ball that came our way and we went home empty handed. Nevertheless, it is an extraordinary section with a fantastic bird eyes view and I highly recommend sitting here the next time you see a game at Wrigley Field.

"Best value view"

Section 407

This is quickly becoming my favorite section - especially for hot day games. Here, we got shade the entire afternoon and more importantly could see 100% of fair territory and had an easy view of the manual scoreboard in center, the new stats scoreboard in right, and the box score/radar gun along the first base line. The only thing we had to stand and stretch to see was the Cubs' bullpen.

The best part of this section is that it offers a more affordable price without the gamble of having a pole/overhang/limited sight/etc. This way I can continue helping the umps with balls and strikes.

The only drawbacks are:
- the rows are long, so a high number seat (9, 10, 109, 110) means you have to walk through a lot of people to get your 2nd and 3rd Old Style
- the steps are steep with no rail, which isn't so hard at first, but increasingly difficult to navigate after 4th Old Style
- the ladies' room is behind this section, but the men's are 4-5 over, which makes for a longer than expected dash after Old Style #5
- the Beer stand right behind the section is cash only, which is actually a blessing when you want to stop at 6 Old Styles

Incredible seats right on top of the visitor dugout. Got three balls during the game from the visiting team tossing them into the stands. View is great. Only complaint is the type of fans sitting in this section. Seemed to be uptight.

Attended Cubs Reds on August 5, which surprisingly ended up in a Cubs win. It was maybe mid to high 80s with some typical Chicago summer humidity. But lucky for us, these seats were in the shade thanks to being under the overhand of the upper deck. The wind was blowing in from the northeast and provided a nice breeze as well. While you might be concerned about following the action down the left field line in deep left field (see photos), the stadium has mounted large flat screen TVs on the ceiling above you which is essentially the bottom of the overhanging upper deck which you sit under here. Also, one cool thing is that you also have a view of the walkway to get to some of the more luxurious sky box suites, so theres a good chance you might catch a glimpse of some celebrities in attendance or even the 7th inning stretch singer as they walk between their sweet and the broadcast booth (we were fortunate enough to see Patrick Sharp, a Chicago Blackhawks superstar who was giving a mid game interview following his 5 year contract extension. Super stoked about that by the way, Sharpy is the man and definitely my Mom's favorite Blackhawk).
Sorry, lets get back on track. There was a beer and snack stand maybe 20 steps away that never had longer than a 2 or 3 minute wait. Snacks included soft pretzels and peanuts (no hot dogs, burgers, pizza, or nachos), and beers included Amstel Light, Old Style, Labatt Blue, and Heineken. Only bad thing about this stand is that it is cash only, you have to go down the ramp to the main concourse to pay by card, or hit the Bank of America ATM located at the bottom third of the ramp (service charge for non BOA customers is $2.50). When I ran out of cash, I opted for the ATM since I had been so pleased with the short lines at the cash only stand. Walking vendors were plentiful, water, beer, and hotdogs came by every 15 minutes or so, although no cotton candy or ice cream ever made it by us, leading me to conclude that this section is most commonly frequented by an older crowd. We had a group of women in front of us for a ladies day (maybe 15 of them), which detracted a bit from the enjoyment as they stood up all the time taking pictures and twittering, while having no idea whatsoever that they were blocking our view. But hey, that's Wrigley, lots of people go just to enjoy the historic park and socialize at the world's largest saloon.
All in all, you can never go wrong with a trip to Wrigley even though the Cubs as a ballclub have seen better days. I would recommend these seats to anyone other than a family with kids. Enter at Clark and Waveland and you'll have a short walk to the section. Enjoy the shade on a hot day, and hopefully the Cubs will find a way to fly the W flag for you.

Seat 101 had a pole directly in front of it:( Otherwise, great seats in first row behind the walkway and great view! Try to avoid seat 101, unless you HAVE to have an aisle seat.

Fan Opinions of the Best Seats at Wrigley Field

  • "Seats in the Terrace Reserve, sections 201-242, rows 8-23 are the most cost effective in the lower level."Most of the seats in these sections are covered, which can help out during midsummer daylight games. One should keep in mind that the poles supporting the upper deck start in row 8, which is the first row of the Terrace Reserve section and offer various degrees of an obstructed view depending on the location. These poles are slim by design and the ball is still easy to follow.
  • "If you want to watch baseball, sit in the stands, if you want to party, sit in the bleachers."
  • "The bleachers, to be honest, are overrated."I'll have a beer or two at the game, but I also really like to watch the game, and I'm sorry, I'm a Cubs fan, but the bleachers are not the place to go if you want to get a score card and watch the game.
  • "The bleachers are way overpriced and are not comfortable."However, they are fun if you get there for batting practice. Lots of homerun balls to try and catch.
  • "Third Base Seats Get Most Shade at Wrigley Field"Seats on the third base side of the field at Wrigley Field will have the sun behind them for a late afternoon or evening game. On the 200 level, Sections 206-235 provide the best opportunity for shade, though it might come with having to sit behind a pole. The 400 and 500 levels at Wrigley Field are well-protected from the elements. Meanwhile, avoid Sections 140 and 142 if you are sensitive to the sun. And, of course, the Wrigley Bleachers are only for those who do not mind sitting in the blaring sun for three hours.
