RYS Expert Reviews

Reserved Seating

(2026 Review) - Covered Seating – All reserved sections are under the Shed roof for protection from sun and rain    Three Price Tiers – Front, Middle, and Rear Orchestra offer different price and view options    Best Views Up Front – Closer rows provide the most immersive and detailed experience    Assigned Seats – Traditional concert setup with fixed rows and seat numbers    Who Should Sit Here  Reserved Seating is ideal for guests who want a traditional concert experience with a guaranteed seat and reliable views of the performance. This is the best option for those who prefer being under cover and closer to the stage compared to the Lawn. Fans who want the most immersive experience should focus on the Front Orchestra, while those looking for a balance of value and view will find strong options in the Middle and Rear sections. Guests seeking a more casual or social atmosphere may prefer the Lawn instead.  Reserved Seating Location & Details  Reserved Seating is located inside the Koussevitzky Music Shed and is divided into three main tiers: Front Orchestra, Middle Orchestra, and Rear Orchestra.  All seats are under the Shed roof    Sections feature assigned rows and seat numbers    Rows are relatively flat, making proximity to the stage more important for view quality    Layout is centered on the stage with slight angle differences in side sections    Views From Reserved Seating  Views from Reserved Seating are generally clear and unobstructed across all sections. However, because of the flatter row design, sitting closer to the stage significantly improves the overall experience. Front sections provide the most detailed views, while rear sections offer a more distant but still comfortable perspective of the performance.  Front Orchestra (Sections 1–3)  The Front Orchestra offers the closest and most desirable views at Tanglewood.  Section 1 – Centered on the stage with the most direct, head-on views    13 rows (Row A–N)    Sections 2–3 – Slightly off-center but still offer excellent sightlines    11 rows (Row C–N)    Fully covered by the Shed roof    These sections are typically the most in-demand due to their proximity and balanced viewing angles.  Middle Orchestra (Sections 4–9)  The Middle Orchestra provides a strong mix of value and proximity.    Sections 4–5 – Best alignment with the center of the stage in this tier    Sections 4–7 – 11 rows (Row A–L)    Sections 8–9 – Slightly smaller with 9 rows (Row A–J)    These seats remain close enough for a highly enjoyable experience while typically coming at a lower price point than the Front Orchestra.  Rear Orchestra (Sections 11–20)  The Rear Orchestra is the most affordable reserved seating option under the Shed.  Located at the back of the covered seating area    22 rows (Row A–W)    Clear, unobstructed views despite the distance    Unlike some seating behind the Shed, these sections maintain full coverage and avoid the potential sightline issues found in more distant or non-reserved areas.
